Job summary

Veritas Education Recruitment is seeking an EYFS Teaching Assistant to support a child with ASD in a mainstream primary school in Chorley from September 2026. The role is full-time and involves working both in the classroom and during unstructured times.

The ideal candidate will have EYFS or SEND experience, knowledge of ASD strategies, and strong communication and teamwork skills. Relevant qualifications are desirable but not essential.

Job description

EYFS Teaching Assistant - SEND Support (Full-Time)

Location: Chorley, Lancashire

Start Date: September 2026

Pay Rate: £14.50 - £16 per hour (dependent on experience)

We are seeking a compassionate, enthusiastic and dedicated EYFS Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school in Chorley from September 2026.

This full-time position involves working closely with a child in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the child's learning, development and well-being throughout the school day, both in the classroom and during unstructured times.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide tailored one-to-one support for an SEND pupil with ASD, promoting their engagement, independence and social development.
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of differentiated learning activities in line with the EYFS framework.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement and review the pupil's individual support plan.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and communication through consistent routines and use of supportive strategies.
  • Support the child during transitions and maintain a safe, nurturing learning environment.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Experience working with young children, ideally within an EYFS or SEND setting.
  • Knowledge of strategies and approaches for supporting children with ASD.
  • A caring, patient and proactive attitude.
  • Excellent communication and teamworking skills.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent) are desirable but not essential.
