Role Description

The Early Years Practitioner will support the daily care, learning, and development of children in the nursery and preschool environment. This full or part time role involves planning and delivering age appropriate activities, observing and recording children’s progress, and contributing to a stimulating, inclusive classroom environment. The practitioner will follow safeguarding and health and safety procedures, assist with routines such as meals, rest, and personal care, and help maintain clean, organised learning spaces.

The role includes building positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues, participating in team meetings, and supporting the implementation of early years curriculum and centre policies. The practitioner is expected to engage in ongoing professional development and contribute to a culture of respect, inclusion, and high-quality care.

Qualifications

• Relevant early years education and childcare qualification (e.g., Level 2 or Level 3 in Early Years / Childcare) or equivalent experience working in nursery or preschool settings.


• Knowledge of early childhood development and early years frameworks, with the ability to plan and deliver engaging activities that support learning through play.


• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with children, families, and colleagues, including the ability to build trusting relationships and provide clear information.


• Demonstrated commitment to safeguarding, health and safety, and inclusive practice, including understanding of policies and procedures related to child protection.


• Organisational and time management skills to manage routines, documentation, and resources effectively in a busy early years environment.


• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, use initiative, and respond calmly and positively to changing needs and situations.


• Basic IT skills for recording observations, maintaining digital records, and communicating electronically as required.


• Enhanced background check eligibility and the right to work in the UK; paediatric first aid training is an advantage.
