Job summary

Durham County Council in Stanley, Durham is recruiting two Nursery Assistants to deliver high‑quality care for babies and children aged 0–5. One permanent role (26 hours per week) and one temporary maternity‑cover role (16 hours per week) until October 2027.

The ideal candidate will have EYFS experience, a Level 3 early years qualification, safeguarding knowledge and SEN exposure. DBS enhanced disclosure is required; interviews begin weekly 19 October 2026.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working within the Early Years Foundation Stage.
• A solid understanding of safeguarding procedures.
• A full and relevant level 3 early years qualification in Childcare and Education.
• Knowledge and practical experience of children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

Responsibilities

• Lead engaging activities tailored to children aged 0-5 years.
• Foster a welcoming environment by encouraging parental involvement and open communication.
• Maintain high standards of hygiene for children, equipment, and premises.
• Promote independence and development within a nurturing group setting.
• Record keeping of children’s progress and activities.
• Monitor and assess children’s learning in line with EYFS framework.
