The role will involve providing general early years support, engaging children in play-based learning activities, and supporting children's development through a range of age-appropriate experiences. You will also be required to provide personal care where needed, supporting children's hygiene, comfort, and independence throughout the school day.

This role is full-time, starting in January and continuing until July 2027. The successful candidate must hold a relevant Early Years qualification and have previous experience working within an early years, nursery, pre-school, or primary school setting. The ability to support young children's development, provide personal care sensitively, and contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment is essential.

As an Early Years Practitioner, your responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting the delivery of engaging and age-appropriate activities within the school's early years provision.
  • Providing general support to children throughout the early years environment.
  • Creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment that encourages children's learning and development.
  • Supporting children with their personal, social, and emotional development.
  • Helping children develop their communication and language skills through play-based activities and everyday interactions.
  • Supporting children's personal care needs, including toileting, changing, and hygiene routines where required.
  • Promoting children's independence with personal care, dressing, and everyday routines in an age-appropriate manner.
  • Using positive behaviour management strategies to encourage appropriate behaviour and engagement.
  • Adapting activities and resources to meet children's individual needs, abilities, and developmental stages.
  • Working on a one-to-one basis and with small groups to support children's participation and progress.
  • Helping children develop early literacy, numeracy, physical, and creative skills through play and exploration.
  • Encouraging children to develop their confidence, independence, and social interaction skills.
  • Working closely with the class teacher and other members of staff to provide consistent care and support.
  • Supporting daily classroom routines, transitions, and activities throughout the school day.
  • Maintaining children's dignity, privacy, and wellbeing when providing personal care.
  • Building positive relationships with children and their families, where appropriate, to support children's wellbeing and development.
  • Maintaining a strong commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and the welfare of all children.
To be successful in this Early Years Practitioner role, you will need:
  • A relevant Early Years qualification, which is essential for this role.
  • Previous experience working within an early years, nursery, pre-school, or primary school setting.
  • A good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and child development.
  • Experience supporting young children with their communication, social, emotional, and developmental needs.
  • Confidence providing personal care, including toileting and hygiene support, in a sensitive and respectful manner.
  • The ability to promote children's independence and support their personal care routines.
  • A patient, nurturing, and empathetic approach to supporting children's learning and development.
  • The ability to adapt activities and approaches to meet individual children's needs.
  • A good understanding of positive behaviour management and inclusive early years practice.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team.
  • A flexible and proactive approach to supporting children's learning, care, and wellbeing.
  • A strong commitment to safeguarding, child welfare, and promoting a safe learning environment.
  • A DBS on the update service, or issued within the last 12 months.
