Job summary

Barnardo's in Warwickshire is seeking an Early Years and Children's Practitioner to support delivery of direct services to families, including stay & plays, courses and crèches. You will work with children aged 0-4 and primary school age, delivering activities to develop social and emotional skills.

The role requires travel to different locations within Nuneaton and North Warwickshire, and work hours are typically 8:30am-5pm, Monday to Friday with some Saturday mornings.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and practical experience of the EYFS.
  • Experience of working with and supporting young children and their parents/carers.
  • Confidence in communicating effectively with parents/carers, colleagues and other professionals.
  • Competence in IT and email, working with Word and other Microsoft packages.
  • Experience of delivering Early Years/children's activities in community settings is desirable.
  • Qualified to deliver Baby Massage and Chatter Matter's courses is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver stay & plays, holiday playschemes or afterschool club type activities for children, young people and families.
  • Support direct services to families via one-to-one support, groups, activities, courses, and crèches.
  • Work mainly 8.30am–5pm, Monday to Friday, with Saturday mornings.
  • Work across Nuneaton and North Warwickshire locality areas and travel between locations.

Service Objectives

The Warwickshire Children & Family Centre services improve the outcomes and life chances for all children, young people and their families by offering effective preventative and early intervention services, with a focus on those who are hardest to reach and are experiencing the greatest challenges in life.


Roles and responsibilities specific to this post

We are looking to recruit, a reliable, flexible and hardworking Early Years and Children's Practitioner to support the delivery of direct services to families. The support you provide may be through one-to-one support, groups, activities, courses, and crèches. Activity sessions may involve supporting children aged 0-4 years, and primary school age children.


Working together with other team colleagues the postholder will deliver stay & plays, holiday playschemes or afterschool club type activities for children, young people and families.


Please note this is an 'As and When' post. Work hours offered will mainly within the hours of 8.30am - 5pm Monday to Friday, and Saturday mornings.


Work will take place in the Nuneaton and North Warwickshire locality areas. Outreach work is a significant and regular part of the team's work, so for this reason, it is essential that candidates must have means to travel to different work locations.


Can you help to:


  • Offer fun and engaging activities to support children to develop positive social and emotional skills

  • Plan activities in line with the EYFS

  • Build positive relationships with parents/ carers

  • Hold sometimes difficult/ challenging conversations with parents

  • Offer advice and support, or signpost and refer parents to the most appropriate service.


It is important that the successful candidate is able to demonstrate experience of and/or an understanding of the following:


  • Knowledge and practical experience of the EYFS, including an Early Years Childcare qualification to at least level 2, but level 3 is strongly desirable.

  • Experience of working with and supporting young children and their parents/ carers.

  • Confidence in communicating effectively with parents/ carers, colleagues and other professionals.

  • Competence in IT and email, working with Word and other Microsoft packages.

  • Experience of delivering Early Years/ children's activities in community settings is desirable.

  • Qualified to deliver Baby Massage and Chatter Matter's courses is desirable.
