Job summary

Supply Desk, in partnership with a welcoming Maidenhead primary school, is looking for an Early Career Teacher (ECT) to join KS1 for a September start. This role offers structured induction, mentoring, and ongoing professional development to help you begin your teaching career with confidence.

You will support pupils in literacy, numeracy, phonics, and social development within a nurturing classroom, with close collaboration with teaching assistants and mentors.

Qualifications

  • QTS or pending QTS (ECTs welcome)
  • Experience with KS1 and early years development is preferred
  • Strong communication and nurturing approach

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging KS1 lessons aligned to the national curriculum
  • Support pupils in reading, writing, phonics, and maths
  • Create an inclusive, stimulating classroom environment
  • Assess and monitor pupil progress with mentor support
  • Differentiate learning to support pupils of all abilities including SEN
  • Foster pupil confidence, curiosity and love of learning
  • Work closely with teaching assistants and experienced colleagues

The Role

As a KS1 ECT, you will inspire young learners at a crucial stage in their development, supporting them in building strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, and social skills within a caring and engaging classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging and creative lessons in line with the KS1 national curriculum
  • Support pupils early development in reading, writing, phonics, and maths
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment
  • Assess and monitor pupil progress with support from senior staff and mentors
  • Differentiate learning to support pupils of all abilities, including those with SEN
  • Foster pupils confidence, curiosity, and love of learning
  • Work closely with teaching assistants and experienced colleagues
  • Build strong relationships with parents, carers, and the wider school community
Requirements
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or pending QTS (ECTs welcome to apply)
  • Passion for teaching and supporting young learners in KS1
  • Good understanding of early learning and phonics (or willingness to develop this)
  • Positive, proactive, and nurturing approach to teaching
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
Desirable
  • Experience from placements within KS1
  • Familiarity with phonics schemes (e.g., Read Write Inc, Letters and Sounds)
  • Understanding of safeguarding and inclusive teaching practices
  • Willingness to learn and develop as part of an ECT programme
