Job summary

Aegiq is seeking a Graduate Photonics Engineer to join our Sheffield team, developing and testing photonic hardware for next‑gen quantum computing systems. This hands‑on laboratory role involves working with optical equipment, photonic integrated circuits and cryogenic systems to build, test and characterise devices essential to our technology.

You'll collaborate with scientists and engineers, contribute to experimental setups, data analysis and troubleshooting, and grow practical skills across

Qualifications

• Degree in physics, photonics, or related field or equivalent experience.
• Hands-on optical experiments from university projects, placements, or internships.
• Some experience with Python for data analysis or visualization.

Responsibilities

• Build, align, and operate optical testing systems for devices.
• Support cryogenic measurements and sample prep.
• Characterise device performance: transmission, loss, spectra, timing.
• Develop and carry out repeatable tests of photonic integrated circuits at room and cryogenic temps.
• Write Python scripts to automate measurements and improve data quality.
• Analyse results and communicate findings to engineers and scientists.
• Maintain laboratory procedures, calibration records and safe working practices.
• Collaborate with photonic design, fabrication, packaging and electronics teams.
