Job Vacancy: EAL Teaching Assistant (Primary School)
Location: Burnley
Contract Type: Full-time (school hours, term time)
Start Date: May 2025
Salary: £13.75 - £15 per hour

We are looking for a compassionate, enthusiastic and proactive Teaching Assistant to join our vibrant primary school team and provide targeted support for pupils with English as an Additional Language (EAL).

About the Role:

As an EAL Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in helping children who are new to English or developing their proficiency. You’ll work closely with class teachers, the SENCO and EAL Coordinator to deliver tailored support—both in-class and through small group or 1:1 interventions.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Support EAL pupils in accessing the curriculum and improving their English language skills
  2. Develop and deliver engaging language-based activities
  3. Assist in creating a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment
  4. Monitor and report on pupil progress to teaching staff
  5. Help build pupils’ confidence and participation in school life
We are looking for someone who:
  1. Has experience working with EAL pupils or has a strong interest in language development
  2. Demonstrates excellent communication skills and cultural sensitivity
  3. Is patient, flexible and passionate about supporting children’s learning
  4. Can work effectively as part of a supportive team
