Job summary

Protocol Education Ltd in Harrow is seeking an EAL Learning Support Assistant to help pupils develop their English language skills and feel included in school life. You will work with teachers to support English as an Additional Language, both one-to-one and in small groups, enabling students to access the wider curriculum.

The role focuses on building confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing, forming positive relationships with pupils, and helping them become independent learners

Qualifications

• A genuine passion for supporting young people and helping them succeed.
• Patient, approachable and able to build strong relationships with pupils.
• Confident communicator who can explain ideas clearly and simply.
• Understanding of challenges when developing English is desirable.
• Experience with EAL pupils or similar settings is desirable but not essential.
• Additional language skills are highly desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils with English as an Additional Language in lessons, one-to-one or small groups.
• Help students develop confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing English.
• Assist pupils to understand instructions, tasks and subject-specific vocabulary.
• Help EAL students access the wider curriculum and participate in lessons.
• Encourage pupils to become more confident and independent learners.
• Work closely with teachers to adapt and reinforce learning.
• Build positive relationships with pupils and help them settle into school life.
• Support students’ social development and confidence inside and outside the classroom.
