Job summary

Academics are partnering with a 2-form entry primary school in Hounslow to appoint an EAL Teaching Assistant with a good understanding of phonics and experience supporting children who have English as an additional language.

You will work with Reception to Year 2, providing classroom support, 1:1 and small group interventions to boost English skills. The role starts October/November 2026, with full training and ongoing CPD.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of phonics and strategies to support English as an additional language.
• Experience delivering small group and 1:1 intervention to improve English.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a teaching team.

Responsibilities

• Provide classroom support across Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.

EAL Teaching Assistant Role

Class Room Support, 121 and Small Group WorkAcademics are currently working with this Primary school in Hounslow to appoint an EAL Teaching Assistant with a good understanding of phonics or experience working with children who have English as an additional language.

This role would be brilliant for a teaching assistant who likes to work independently and have responsibility for taking children out of class to take part in small group and 121 intervention to improve their ability in English. The children you will be working with are in in the early stages of learning English as an additional language and could be in Reception, year 1 and year 2.

Full support and training for you to be successful in your role will be provided, however you will need to be confident working on your own initiative to make sure you are working to high standard and as a strong team player within the teaching team.
