Role - Senior Data Engineer
Location – Hybrid, 2 days onsite in Telford
Salary - £65,000 to £80,000

The OpportunityWe are partnering with a major defence systems integrator to recruit a Senior Data Engineer on a full-time, permanent basis. The role supports a high-profile UK Government programme and offers a hybrid working arrangement, with an initial expectation of 2 days per week on-site in Telford and the remainder worked remotely. Greater flexibility around remote working is anticipated as working patterns and stakeholder relationships mature.
Applicants must hold or be eligible to obtain SC clearance.
The RoleThis is a critical position involving the design, delivery, and support of robust data solutions across a large, complex programme. The successful candidate will work alongside data engineers, delivery managers, technical specialists, and partner organisations to deliver scalable and secure data capabilities aligned with government transformation objectives.
Key responsibilities include:- Designing and leading implementation of data flows between operational systems and BI platforms
- Building, maintaining, and operating scalable data and data-streaming environments
- Troubleshooting and optimising data processing and analytics workflows
- Evaluating new tools and technologies to improve the data analytics platform
- Architecting or reviewing advanced data analytics solutions
- Leading database management tasks
- Supporting data migration, integration, and transformation processes
- Contributing to project planning, risk identification, and mitigation activities
The PersonThis role is ideal for an experienced data engineer with a strong technical foundation and the ability to collaborate effectively in agile, cross-functional teams.
Essential experience includes:- Proficiency with ETL platforms such as SSIS, AWS, or Azure Data Factory
- Experience configuring/administering AWS or Azure data platforms and analytics services like Power BI or Pentaho BA
- Strong working knowledge of Python and its data/machine learning libraries
- Background in agile software development environments
- Ability to estimate effort, manage dependencies, and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Desirable skills:- Experience with Hadoop and Jenkins
- AWS or Azure certifications
- Familiarity with Java
