Job description

About incident.io

incident.io is the leading all-in-one platform for incident management. From small bugs to major outages, incident.io helps teams respond fast, reduce downtime, and improve every time something goes wrong.

Since launching in 2021, we've helped 800 companies—including Netflix, Airbnb, and Block—resolve over 250,000 incidents. Every month, more than 30,000 responders across Engineering, Product, and Support use incident.io to fix issues faster.

We're a small team that values pragmatism, quality, innovation, and speed. We've raised $100M from Index Ventures, Insight Partners, and Point Nine, along with many angel investors who are founders and executives of top companies.

The Team

At incident.io, we collect various data sources both internally (product usage) and externally (social media, Google Analytics, Stripe, Finance & Sales tools). We're proud of our data stack, which includes Google BigQuery, Fivetran, dbt, and Omni.

Our Data team is expanding this year, and we're seeking a Senior Data Engineer passionate about enhancing our data stack and optimizing pipelines to meet the latest standards.

This role bridges Data Engineering and Analytics Engineering, with a focus on the former. As an early hire in this area, you'll have a significant impact on our stack and set the technical direction.

What you'll be doing:
  • Enhancing our CI/CD process to enable engineering and data teams to develop and deploy code rapidly and confidently, facilitating scalability.
  • Connecting Engineering and Data teams by understanding their needs and building strong cross-company relationships.
  • Owning and improving the 'EL' part of our stack (currently Fivetran, Segment, and Python scripts), balancing build vs. buy decisions, and managing costs.
  • Enhancing the 'T' part of our stack by optimizing our dbt setup and elevating team practices.
  • Establishing best practices across the company, including testing, documentation, and scalability to improve data quality and confidence.
This role could be ideal for you if you:
  • Have extensive experience in end-to-end data engineering, in both startups and larger organizations.
  • Are an expert in dbt Core, comfortable with advanced features like macro overrides, incremental models, and state management.
  • Enjoy owning the full data engineering lifecycle, from architecture to stakeholder engagement and strategic planning.
  • Can evaluate build vs. buy options for performance, cost, and maintainability.
  • Optional: Experience with GCP and Terraform to collaborate with infrastructure teams.
What we offer:

We aim to create a supportive environment for your best work, with benefits that promote health and growth:

  • Market-leading private medical insurance
  • Generous parental leave
  • First Friday of the month off
  • Flexible annual leave/PTO
  • Competitive salary and equity
  • Remote work options and personal development budget
  • Enhanced pension/401k
