We have an exciting opportunity at our Halifax site for a Multi Skilled Maintenance Engineer. We seek dynamic individuals with experience in maintaining and improving process and packaging equipment, looking for a varied engineering role with a competitive salary and promising long-term career prospects.

This role offers the chance to take on a highly responsible, visible position providing technical engineering support to production under the leadership of the Area Engineering Manager and working alongside the production team.

What will this role achieve?

This position is vital to our manufacturing operations in Halifax. Your main goal will be to support the factory's objectives by efficiently executing assigned tasks. You will work effectively as part of a diverse team.

We are looking for a multi-skilled maintenance engineer to provide comprehensive technical support, including proactive maintenance, reactive repairs, fault finding, and continuous improvement of plant performance, all while maintaining safety and quality standards. You will own the continuous improvement of a specific area, applying good manufacturing and engineering practices.

Occasionally, you may need to cover for other maintenance engineers during their absence, including on different shifts.

What will be your key deliverables?

Your primary responsibility will be to manufacture products to specifications in a safe, cost-effective manner. Responsibilities include:

  • Training, assessing, mentoring, and supporting apprentices and team members in engineering skills development.
  • Contributing to team action plans and continuous improvement activities, focusing on OEE, Condition Based Monitoring, Kaizens, and workplace organization.
  • Ensuring the mechanical and electrical integrity of equipment through planned inspections, overhaul, repair, and managing parts and service contracts.
  • Monitoring plant conditions, reporting defects, and improving plant reliability through effective management of downtime and maintenance planning.
  • Reporting performance metrics and trends regularly.
  • Modeling good engineering standards and safety practices.
  • Performing safety checks and ensuring compliance with legislation.
  • Managing engineering tasks across the factory to minimize idle time.
  • Applying sustainability principles and energy conservation where appropriate.

What do you need for this role?

This is a multi-skilled role requiring knowledge of electrical and mechanical fields. Experience in an FMCG manufacturing environment is preferred but not mandatory. Essential skills include understanding engineering drawings, fault finding, and operating under pressure. A formal engineering qualification such as City & Guilds or NVQ level is required, with additional experience in electrical automation and mechanical engineering being advantageous.

Work patterns:

You will work on a Pitman shift pattern, including day and night shifts with every other weekend off. Flexibility for additional hours may be required. Changes to shift patterns will follow employment agreements.
