Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a 43-month fixed-term, 0.6 WTE Band 8b Principal Clinical Psychologist post on the Mildred Creak Inpatient Unit (MCU) within the Psychological and Mental Health Services (PAMHS). This role provides cover while the current post-holder is seconded into an NIHR-funded research fellowship. The MCU has 8 inpatient and 2 day-patient beds for children and young people aged 7-13 with severe and complex mental health difficulties. The postholder will join a multidisciplinary team including child and adolescent psychiatrists, psychotherapists, systemic psychotherapists, and mental health nurses.

Academic/Professional qualifications
  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (eligible for DCP membership within BPS)
  • Registered with HCPC
  • Completed a recognized supervisor training course in D Clin Psych
Desirable qualifications
  • Training in therapeutic models like DBT or Trauma-focused CBT
  • Training in ADOS-2/3Di/ADI
Experience/Knowledge
  • Post-qualification experience working with children and young people with complex presentations
  • Supervision experience of psychologists
  • Preparation of complex assessment reports and formulations
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, safeguarding, and child protection laws
Desirable experience
  • Experience in a child and adolescent psychiatric inpatient setting, including with patients under the Mental Health Act
  • Experience providing interventions like DBT or trauma-focused CBT
  • Experience leading groups for patients and families
