Making Tax Digital (MTD) is a key part of the government’s ambition for HMRC to become one of the most digitally advanced tax authorities in the world. MTD aims to make it easier for customers to get their tax right, saving time that can be devoted to maximizing business opportunities and fostering good financial planning. It requires customers to use digital record-keeping tools and submit tax return data directly from those records using MTD-compatible software.

HMRC is seeking Senior User Researchers passionate about User Centred Design to support HMRC’s flagship digital services, Making Tax Digital (MTD).
These Grade 7 roles will join the established User Centred Design leadership team in MTD. You’ll lead projects across large multi-disciplinary teams to ensure users are at the centre of our digital services.
You will influence and support others within the profession to lead research and design on major services. You will collaborate with digital service managers, business analysts, and other multidisciplinary colleagues to develop user insights, set direction, and embed best practices to inform evidence-based decisions.
You will be part of a thriving User Researcher community with opportunities for insight sharing, training, and discussion. Our team values diverse backgrounds and ideas to conduct impactful research. You will be based at one of our HMRC regional centres across the UK.
