Hurdle.bio is revolutionising the biotechnology landscape by democratising access to novel diagnostics through cutting-edge bio-infrastructure. Since 2017, we've processed over 3 million tests and partnered with global healthcare leaders to provide comprehensive diagnostic solutions and multi-omics biomarker services.
We're on a mission to transform how companies and consumers access biological insights. With our end-to-end platform spanning sample collection, lab testing, logistics, and digital interfaces, we're making advanced diagnostics more accessible than ever.
The role:
The Senior R&D Scientist , Bioinformatics is responsible for producing R&D deliverables within agreed timeframes and budget. This includes maximising the biological insights we obtain from different sources of omic data, ultimately leading to the development of novel biomarker assets within the Chronomics bio-infrastructure that serve our partners.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Produce R&D deliverables (analysis, reports, code, …) for Chronomics R&D partnerships (inc. pharma and life sciences partnerships) and internal pipeline within agreed timeframes.
- Work closely with the commercial team to present deliverables to R&D partners, support new R&D commercial proposals and increase revenue through this channel.
- Develop, QC and maintain our bioinformatic pipelines, working closely with the engineering department.
- Identify and access the latest data assets for biomarker R&D purposes.
- Write papers and present work at scientific conferences.
- Work with other Hurdle functions on Science deliverables as required, including supporting the commercial and operations teams on our bioinformatic and genomics products.
Other ad hoc duties:
- Bring expertise in other omics and multi-omics integration.
- Bring expertise in Nanopore sequencing analysis and biomarker discovery.
- Bring on-board the latest tools or software for the relevant tasks (e.g. epigenetic imputation, graph alignments, mendelian randomization, …).
- Be able to build rapid prototypes to test out concepts quickly and cheaply
- Write secure, scalable, documented code with automated tests.
- Follow dev best practices.
- Document all systems.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Deep knowledge and expertise in DNA methylation arrays and next-generation sequencing (including downstream biological annotation tools).
- Good programming skills in common bioinformatics tools such as R, Python, bash, and ideally workflow languages (e.g. Nextflow).
- Expertise working in a cloud computing environment (AWS).
- Excellent knowledge of statistical modelling and machine learning
- Experience working with large and complex datasets including multi-omics
- Excellent project management skills and task-oriented.
