Job description

We are seeking a Specialist Advisor in Permitting to join the Permitting & Regulatory Support Team, a group of experts in regulation and monitoring of wastewater, air emissions, and waste management activities.

The team ensures the company possesses all necessary environmental permits to carry out statutory functions, provides technical permitting advice, and collaborates with the Environment Agency on permitting matters.

Base location: Clearwater Court, Vastern Rd, Reading RG1 8DB.

Working pattern: 36 hours/week, hybrid role with a maximum of two days in the office.

Role Responsibilities
  • Lead technical projects on AMP8 and beyond, ensuring compliance and negotiating with the Environment Agency.
  • Manage critical permitting work programs.
  • Advise engineering teams on regulatory requirements.
  • Negotiate complex permits and submit applications as needed.
  • Support permitting activities across groundwater, process, network, and water sectors.
  • Represent the team in technical meetings with Water Companies and the Environment Agency.
  • Enhance compliance with environmental permit conditions across the business.
Candidate Requirements
  • Experienced in wastewater environmental permitting with strong communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and proactive.
  • Knowledge of water treatment processes beneficial.
  • Proficient in MS Office, especially SharePoint.
  • Expert in Water Discharge Activity Environmental Permitting.
  • Project management experience preferred.
  • Understanding of Water Industry regulations, including Environmental Permitting Regulations.
  • Degree in a scientific or environmental discipline preferred.
