Job description

We are seeking a Specialist Advisor in permitting to join the Permitting & Regulatory Support Team, a group of subject matter experts in regulation and monitoring of wastewater, air emissions, and waste management activities.

The team’s role is to ensure the Company has all necessary Environmental Permits for statutory functions, provide technical permitting advice, and collaborate with the Environment Agency on permitting matters.

Base location

Clearwater Court, Vastern Rd, Reading RG1 8DB.

Working pattern or hours

36 hours a week. This is a hybrid role working a maximum of two days in the office.

Key responsibilities
  1. Act as technical lead on AMP8 projects, ensuring assets comply with permits and negotiating with the Environment Agency.
  2. Project manage critical permitting work programmes.
  3. Advise engineering partners on regulatory requirements.
  4. Negotiate permits and submit applications related to Capital Schemes.
  5. Support the wider team on permitting matters across various activities.
  6. Represent the team in technical meetings with Water Companies and the Environment Agency.
  7. Contribute to compliance improvements with environmental permits.
What you should bring to the role
  • Experience in Wastewater Environmental Permitting, with strong communication and relationship skills.
  • High attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • Knowledge of water treatment processes is beneficial.
  • IT proficiency, especially in MS Office and SharePoint.
  • Subject matter expertise in Water Discharge Activity Environmental Permitting.
  • Project management experience is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of Water Industry regulations, including Environmental Permitting Regulations.
  • Experience negotiating permits with the Environment Agency.
  • Degree in a scientific or environmental discipline is desirable.
