Job description

Overview

We are looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our team for a 12-month FTC. You will play an important role within the Group Transport Finance Team, focusing on reconciling our backhauls with our customers' central summaries. In this proactive role, you will support the operational and financial running of the business, ensuring adherence to management accounts processes. You will challenge current processes and champion continuous improvement across the wider team.

Our function combines the day-to-day commercial and financial operations of transport with strategic controls to maximize value for our customers and the wider group.

The role is based at our Sainsbury's distribution centre in Leeds. After initial training, the role will be hybrid, with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.

How will you contribute?

1. Responsible for weekly reconciliations of Wincanton Backhaul to Sainsbury's central summaries, identifying anomalies in kilometres/hours reported to ensure accuracy of weekly backhaul stats across all sites.
2. Process weekly internal cross-charges between Wincanton contracts.
3. Serve as the single point of contact for BAU Finance colleagues to raise issues and provide reporting solutions.
4. Collaborate with the Wincanton Invoicing team to resolve queries promptly.
5. Support efforts to reduce bad debt and overdue customer accounts.
6. Assist with annual rate reviews for backhaul lanes and monitor ongoing profitability.
7. Communicate effectively, keeping stakeholders informed of risks or opportunities within the P&L.
8. Resolve and escalate site finance and operations queries related to the backhaul P&L.
9. Provide accurate reports demonstrating backhaul profitability to Wincanton and the customer.
