Job Details

Legal Counsel: Cards and Payments

The role is based at the PayPoint head office in Welwyn Garden City and reports to the Head of Legal - Card Services Business. This position is part of the wider PayPoint Group Legal Team comprising 10 lawyers.

Main Purpose of Role
  • Handle legal and regulatory matters related to PayPoint Group’s Cards Business, including structuring regulated and unregulated activities under the Consumer Credit Act.
  • Support other FCA-regulated Payments businesses within PayPoint by providing legal support.
  • Draft and negotiate contracts to support these businesses.
  • Assist other PayPoint Group businesses as needed.
Main Responsibilities
  • Support the main purpose of the role as outlined above.
  • Provide regulatory input on commercial agreements and negotiate contracts.
  • Advise on regulatory developments and brief business stakeholders accordingly.
  • Research and analyze legislation, case law, and regulatory requirements to ensure accurate legal advice and procedures.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory changes and assess their impact on the business.
  • Support data protection matters in collaboration with the Data Protection Officer (DPO).
  • Work with Legal and Compliance Teams to promote a unified team approach.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
  • Solicitor qualified in England and Wales, with at least 2 years post-qualification experience; other applicants considered.
  • Experience drafting contracts and providing legal advice on commercial and regulatory issues.
  • Experience working in an FCA-regulated environment with a solid understanding of regulatory principles.
  • Knowledge of GDPR, data protection, and data security issues.
  • Strong negotiation skills and attention to detail.
Highly Desirable
  • Experience advising on FCA regulatory matters.
  • Experience in consumer credit and payment services is preferred but not essential.
  • In-house legal experience.
