An exciting opportunity at a leading NHS Foundation Trust for a full-time Band 7 Obesity Specialist Practitioner. The role involves managing complex obesity and diabetes, working autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure high standards of care and service development.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a progressive role supporting adult obesity services at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for a full-time, dynamic Band 7 Obesity Specialist Practitioner (Diabetes/Obesity Specialist Nurse or Clinical Pharmacist) to join our team and help shape obesity pathways across South East London.
The role involves acting as an autonomous practitioner in the management of complex obesity and diabetes across outpatient and inpatient settings. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team with doctors, dietitians, nurses, pharmacists, psychologists, and physiotherapists. The post will require onsite working Monday to Friday with potential cross-site duties in the community. The evolving landscape of obesity care offers opportunities for innovative approaches to working.
The primary function of the role is to act as a highly specialised practitioner, working autonomously to assess, treat, and prescribe for patients with diabetes and advise non-specialist practitioners on obesity management plans as required.
In partnership with the multidisciplinary team, the post holder will develop, implement, and evaluate a seamless specialist service, ensuring patients receive the highest standard of clinical care. They will act as a lead specialist, demonstrating expertise within the service, providing advice, education, and support to healthcare professionals and patients. The post holder will actively undertake clinical audits and research within the specialist area.
The post holder will contribute to the ongoing development of clinical practice, research, and standards of care within the service, including developing policies, protocols, and guidelines, and contributing to service development in collaboration with colleagues. They will ensure the safety and well-being of service users, promoting dignity and human rights through person-centered care principles.
