Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced midwife wishing to further develop their knowledge and skills. You will provide woman-centered care as part of a multidisciplinary team.

The Tower team midwives specialize in caring for women with severe mental health conditions, drug and alcohol dependency, sickle cell disease, and fetal anomalies diagnosed during pregnancy.

The team offers a caseload model of care, recognizing medical and social complexities while ensuring an individualized, holistic experience of pregnancy, birth, and postnatal care.

You will gain experience in these areas and in team midwifery, collaborating with various disciplines in decision-making. This is a permanent position with shifts including days and nights; no on-call duties are required.

You must have a full driving license, as postnatal visits are conducted in the GSTT area, with a pool car provided.

Main duties of the job

We seek an enthusiastic, motivated midwife who demonstrates kindness and compassion, especially when supporting women facing challenging pregnancies and outcomes.

The team comprises 7 midwives, who also work shifts on the labour ward to provide intrapartum care. We collaborate extensively with multidisciplinary teams and offer support networks such as psychological support and reflective sessions.

You will have opportunities to lead antenatal education and liaise with specialists in obstetric medicine, neonatology, fetal cardiology, mental health, and safeguarding services.

You will provide competent, individualized intrapartum care on the labour ward, utilizing physiological CTG and supporting the multidisciplinary team.

Job responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work in accordance with NMC rules and code of conduct for midwives.
  • Maintain and develop professional knowledge per NMC recommendations.
  • Follow Trust policies and protocols, ensuring care within these guidelines.
  • Uphold standards of care and assist in implementing national recommendations.
  • Collaborate with MPL to monitor care standards.
  • Maintain effective communication with professional groups and staff.
  • Utilize all midwifery skills to provide care to women and families.
  • Ensure practice aligns with current research and individual needs.
  • Responsible for safe custody and administration of drugs.
  • Assist MPL with clinical coordination and act up when needed.
  • Support orientation for new staff members.
  • Supervise non-midwife staff and students.
  • Maintain stores and equipment efficiently.
  • Report incidents and assist in investigations.
  • Ensure safe working conditions per Health and Safety regulations.
  • Follow risk management strategies, report incidents, and develop risk reduction plans.
