A leading engineering and consulting firm is seeking a Control Systems Engineer to join their innovative team in Oxford. This permanent role involves designing next-generation electric vehicle systems, requiring strong skills in control system design and embedded software development. The successful candidate will work collaboratively, influencing technical direction and contributing to the full V-cycle of development, from requirements capture to vehicle integration.

We are currently supporting a specialist client focused on electric vehicle powertrain and ancillary technology development and are looking for a Control Systems Engineer to join the team and play a key role in the design and delivery of next-generation EV systems. This is a permanent role based in Oxford.
Position Overview
This is a hands-on, technically focused role, ideal for an experienced engineer with a passion for innovation and a proactive mindset. You'll be part of a small but expert team, contributing across the full V-cycle - from requirements capture to real-time embedded software development, calibration, and vehicle integration.
The successful candidate will be expected to work independently, influence technical direction, and play an active role in both development and validation activities. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment where your ideas and initiative will directly impact product success.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop vehicle-level system architecture for EV applications
Develop and integrate high and low voltage systems, communication networks, and sensor/actuator interfaces
Conduct real-time embedded control software development using MATLAB/Simulink and C/C++
Perform safety analysis and design reviews, supporting compliance to ISO26262 where applicable
Design and implement test rigs, develop validation protocols, and support vehicle-level testing
Perform application calibration and feature sign-off
Conduct data logging, analysis, and simulation for control systems verification
Document all phases of development, from requirements through to final delivery
Required Skills & Experience
Strong experience in control system design and embedded software development
Proficiency in MATLAB, Simulink, and C/C++ (including embedded platforms)
Familiarity with CAN, LIN communication protocols and tools such as Vector CANalyzer/CANoe and PEAK
Experience with system-level simulation, data analysis, and vehicle diagnostics
Proficient in MS Office tools including Excel, Word, Visio, and Project
Desirable Skills
Experience in vehicle systems architecture design and wiring loom development
Knowledge of ISO26262, FMEA, HazOP, and automotive quality systems
Background in mechanical and thermal systems as part of vehicle integration
Practical experience with vehicle electronics, wiring loom assembly, and hands-on diagnostics
