Job Title: Senior Naval Architect
Location: Plymouth, Devon
Compensation: £51,941 - £58,105 DOE + Benefits

The role
As a Senior Naval Architect, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. The waterfront is a continually evolving environment, which is going through a period of modernisation. As such there is the opportunity to help shape the future infrastructure of the dockyard, helping to make it more efficient and safer to operate. While at the same time, keeping the existing facilities in service.

Day-to-day, you'll form part of a core team, dedicated to keeping the waterfront of Devonport Royal Dockyard available and suitable for the berthing of the Royal Navy's surface ships and submarines.

  • Provide professional engineering / design authority support to waterfront and floating assets.
  • Manage the through life support for floating assets.
  • Act as Survey Controller for floating assets, specifying refit and repair packages, and post-refit asset acceptance.
  • Prepare design estimates, schedules, tenders and technical substantiations, whilst monitoring spends to ensure assigned projects and tasks are completed on time, in cost, and to the required quality.
  • Develop future waterfront assets with the MoD customer, forming statements of requirements, and specifications, ensuring they meet future operational demands

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Essential experience of the Senior Naval Architect

  • Excellent personal management, communication and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks, and to deliver in a complex environment
  • Experience in AutoCAD or other design software.
  • To poses an understanding of survey / NDE techniques, repair alternatives and standards.
  • To poses an understanding of vessel / afloat plant construction.
  • An analytical and proactive approach to problem solving.

Qualifications for the Senior Naval Architect

  • Must have a degree in Naval Architecture, or another engineering, science, or technology discipline.
  • Has achieved (or can demonstrate the competencies required for) Chartered or Incorporated Engineer Status with the UK Engineering Council and holds full membership of a relevant engineering institute

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
