At Babcock, we’re working to create a safe and secure world. Join us as a Naval Architect at our Bristol, Plymouth, or Rosyth sites and play your part in this mission.

Babcock is rapidly establishing itself as an international naval ship designer and builder. We have built on the success of the UK MOD Type-31 Frigate and secured export contracts for frigate variants (AH) with overseas customers. Our engineering team is actively involved in various shipbuilding programs worldwide, from small fast attack craft to aircraft carriers.

We are looking to expand our engineering and ship design teams significantly. If you are interested in advancing your career in an exciting new direction, consider Babcock for your next move.

As a Naval Architect, your role will include:

  • Supporting complex shipbuilding programs by developing design solutions throughout the entire lifecycle of a platform.

  • Supporting the development of graduate and assistant engineers.

Your responsibilities will also include:

  • Working within design teams to ensure functionality throughout the design lifecycle.
  • Developing design solutions and producing substantiation reports, including stability assessments and concept designs, under supervision.
  • Supporting other projects within your discipline, with a focus on long-term career development.

This role is full-time, 36 hours per week, with hybrid working arrangements (2-3 days in the office and 2-3 days remote).

Essential Experience:
  • Experience in the naval/marine industry.
  • Familiarity with naval architecture software (e.g., Paramarine, NAPA, Foran, Aveva, Ansys) and design packages (ship stability, 2D & 3D CAD).
Qualifications:
  • Degree or HND/HNC in an engineering discipline with marine or defence industry design experience.
  • Membership in a relevant institution (e.g., RINA, IET, IMechE, IMarEst) and either Chartered status or working towards it.
