Job Title: Assistant Commercial Manager

Location: Portsmouth, Cowes or Great Baddow. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements - please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: Up to £58,000 commensurate with skills and experience.

The Assistant Commercial Manager will support the Senior Commercial Manager as a member of the vibrant and highly capable Commercial team within the Maritime Services Products business. This role involves managing and delivering a portfolio of contracts and bids to domestic and international customers in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The Maritime Services Products business is undergoing significant transformation, including growth in our customer base through various products and services.

What you'll be doing:
  1. Support the Commercial team on a wide range of contracts, projects, and campaigns.
  2. Participate in Bid Teams to prepare Bid and Contract materials, including commercial bid reviews, ensuring necessary approvals within governance frameworks.
  3. Work closely with project teams, business development, and customers to ensure smooth contract operations and develop new business opportunities.
  4. Provide commercial strategy on contract development, pricing, governance compliance, customer negotiations, risks, and margin growth.
  5. Review and obtain approval for contract terms, engaging with legal, IP, tax, and other central functions as needed.
  6. Lead negotiations of proposals with customers, ensuring agreements align with business objectives.
  7. Collaborate with Supply Chain to ensure contractual obligations are properly managed.
  8. Establish strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  1. Established commercial background, ideally in UK and export defense sectors.
  2. Experience working within collaborative team environments.
  3. High customer focus with a commitment to deadlines and targets.
  4. Broad knowledge of commercial principles, techniques, and practices.
  5. Understanding of contract terms, legal frameworks, and key contractual risks.
  6. Awareness of functions within project/bid teams.

Desirable:

  1. Experience in a commercial role.
  2. People management experience.
  3. Deep knowledge of commercial principles and practices.
  4. Knowledge of the defense sector, including international competitors and partners.
  5. Understanding of BAE Systems and its operations.
