Centrica Energy’s LNG business is a key growth area, and we are excited to offer a new opportunity for a Legal Counsel – LNG to join our team and play a key part in enabling this growth.
The role is based out of our central London office (close to Marble Arch) with three days per week in the office.
About the role
As part of the legal team dedicated to our LNG business, you will be responsible for managing a varied workload including the following:
Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating commercial contracts predominantly comprising LNG master sale and purchase agreements and confirmation notices, and also including LNG charterparties, road tanker agreements, bunker agreements, services agreements, confidentiality agreements, parent company guarantees, letters of credit, book-out agreements, and amendments, novations, and assignments of these agreements
Managing the internal contract review process to ensure all contracts have the appropriate internal approvals prior to execution including following up with stakeholders as necessary
Liaising with internal teams (e.g. credit, tax, finance, trading) to obtain their input, and negotiating and finalising contracts with counterparties ensuring that contracts are finalised by deal-critical deadlines
Providing strategic legal advice to the LNG trading team on short and medium-term LNG sale and purchase transactions and chartering of LNG ships
Maintaining and updating Centrica’s standard LNG agreements and templates, proactively keeping up to date with legal, business, and market developments impacting the terms required as well as managing Centrica's overall legal risk position by ensuring that contracts reflect best practices.
Working as part of project teams for transactional work or to help implement new processes, products, and systems, such as approving new strategic business initiatives, new products, and entry into new geographical jurisdictions
You will be expected to create and leverage a network of relationships across the LNG team and Centrica Energy more broadly to ensure the legal team is involved and engaged with all material projects and issues across the business' activities

Key requirements and competencies for this role include:
Hold a relevant legal qualification
Relevant experience from either a top-tier law firm or in-house within the energy commodities sector
Ability to break down complex contractual issues effectively to allow for clear understanding and decision-making
Strong level of professional awareness of legal and industry developments affecting the energy industry, compliance issues, and future trends within the industry
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
