Job Description:
WORKING WITH US

Harris Academy Rainham is a popular and oversubscribed 11-16 academy part of the Harris Federation, established in September 2016. We recently opened a Sixth Form for 400 students in September 2023 and seek ambitious, dedicated staff committed to our community. Our core values are Belong, Believe, Become, which are central to our ethos. We emphasize a firm but fair approach to behaviour, a knowledge-rich curriculum tailored to student needs, and leadership by example. We offer career progression, professional development, workload management, bespoke support, and growth opportunities, especially as we develop our Sixth Form. Subjects are prioritized in our pedagogy, and we encourage prospective applicants to learn more via our “why work at” page.

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

We seek a hardworking, ambitious, and dynamic Teacher of Social Sciences, with a Lead Practitioner role available for qualified and experienced candidates. The role offers engagement in wider federation improvement activities. Harris Academy Rainham supports flexible working; applications for both full- and part-time roles are welcome. The ideal candidate will be an effective communicator, inspiring and motivating both the school community and the wider community.

MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

The role involves:

  • Delivering a broad, balanced, relevant, and differentiated curriculum.
  • Monitoring and supporting student progress as a teacher/form tutor.
  • Creating a learning environment where students can reach their potential.
  • Raising standards of attainment.
  • Supporting personal and academic growth opportunities.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Operational and strategic planning, resource development, and curriculum contribution.
  • Staff development and performance management.
  • Quality assurance, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Managing student records and progress tracking.
  • Communication with students, parents, and stakeholders.
  • Pastoral duties as a form tutor.
  • Ensuring high-quality teaching and learning experiences.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree.
  • Have secondary teaching experience, including practice, preferably in multi-ethnic urban schools and 11-18 settings.
  • Understand effective teaching and learning theories and practices.
  • Value high expectations, equality, and tutoring roles.
  • Be knowledgeable of the National Curriculum at KS3 and KS4, including lesson planning, resource development, and assessment.
  • Work well in teams and maintain positive relationships.
  • Possess good ICT skills, including innovative use of interactive whiteboards.
  • Create motivating, safe learning environments.
  • Communicate positively with parents and external agencies.
  • Exhibit strong written and spoken communication skills.
  • Manage their workload effectively and motivate students to raise aspirations.

We offer professional development pathways, collaborative culture, and career progression opportunities through the Harris Institute of Teaching and Leadership.
