We are a dynamic local authority providing essential services to the people of Gloucester. Our main office, based in the Eastgate Centre on Eastgate Street in the heart of the city, is an accessible, modern, and light space designed for collaborative working and finding new ways to work. It's all open plan, with a living green wall and other plants, without set desks, so you can sit next to someone new every day. We are always looking to improve how we work and offer flexible and agile working to give our people a great work-life balance.

About The Role…

Are you an experienced Venue Technician or Sound Engineer? If so, there’s never been a more exciting time to join the Guildhall team!

As the Venue Technician, you will be at the heart of our dynamic cultural programme, which features a mix of live music, comedy, film, dance, circus, and immersive experiences. You will collaborate closely with our talented technical team, production manager, and operational team to ensure the seamless execution of all technical aspects of our events.

You will have the opportunity to work on both in-house productions and touring shows, maintaining the highest standards of quality. As part of our internal technical team, you will work alongside another Venue Technician and play a key role in mentoring and developing a Creative Venue Technical Apprentice.

In this role, you will typically work 3-4 shifts a week as Venue Technician in our events space, which means evening and weekend work is part of the excitement of live events. The rest of your time will be dedicated to supporting the venue's needs, including cinema operations, room hires, and logistical planning for incoming productions and visiting artists.

While your primary base will be at Gloucester Guildhall, your expertise will also be invaluable in supporting the technical needs and opportunities at both the Museum of Gloucester and Blackfriars Priory.

What We Need From You…

We are looking for a Venue Technician that specialises in sound and audio-visual. You will bring your professional experience in providing technical support in a live events environment, with a strong understanding of both technical specialisms. You will have experience working at height and possess sound knowledge of health and safety in a live event environment.

You will be able to provide basic technical training to colleagues to ensure that our venues offer a seamless experience to our customers. Your proactive approach when working with artists will ensure that events are delivered to a high technical standard.

Quality is paramount, and your keen eye for detail will be essential in all areas of your role. You will confidently use your skills and knowledge to suggest improvements to our cultural venues.

You will work to annualised hours to meet the dynamic needs of the live events industry, which will include regular evening and weekend working.

What We Can Do For You…

For all your hard work, you will receive the following:

  • Flexible working pattern
  • Excellent Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)
  • Generous annual leave entitlement - 25 days, rising to 30 days after 5 years of continuous service (FTE)
  • An option to purchase 10 days of additional leave per year (pro rata for part-time staff)
  • Regular job-specific training, career development, and qualification opportunities
  • Supportive and positive working environment with regular, robust supervision
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) that provides free, confidential counselling and advice for employees, available 24 hours a day, online and by telephone, and an in-house Occupational Health service
  • Cycle to Work scheme (Salary Sacrifice - T&C apply)
  • Employee discount scheme
  • Discounted tickets for local events, and reduced rate use of GL1 facilities
  • Access to employee-led networks such as Black Worker’s, Prism (LGBT+), Carers, Disability, and the Young Employees Network, and opportunities to participate in our Equalities Working Group.
