Your role is pivotal in leading the design of strategically important projects for Gatwick Airport with typical budgets up to £20m, ensuring that design meets project requirements while achieving value for money. This role involves every stage of the project process, including ensuring all projects are installed in line with approved designs.

The role

Reporting to the Programme Design Manager, you will be a key member of the Construction team, responsible for ensuring design meets needs across varied multi-million-pound projects, including working in defined sub-programmes on complex projects.

Other duties include:

• Developing project scopes to support the business needs
• Finding innovative design solutions that meet project scopes, are deliverable, meet GAL engineering standards, and are cost-effective
• Developing clear and transparent design briefs for external design consultants
• Managing and reviewing external design outputs to ensure quality and alignment with project milestones and governance
• Collaborating with the Asset Information Team and stakeholders to determine asset information requirements for design and construction contracts

• Experience in engineering design or design management, ideally in a live operational environment, delivering safety-critical outcomes, with significant infrastructure projects over £20 million

• Chartered membership in a recognized engineering institution is highly desirable
• Knowledge and experience in scoping and briefing
