We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical and Electrical Technician to join our team at Chesham Sewage Treatment Works. HP5 1TH. You will be working on various sites in the Colne North area.

As the successful candidate, you will ensure that all equipment at our sewage treatment works is running safely and efficiently using proactive and reactive maintenance methods. You will inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify, or repair electrical and mechanical plant equipment.

Working within the maintenance team, you will follow robust planned maintenance, get involved in minor installation projects, electrical fault finding, and emergency breakdown repairs to ensure our plant operates all year round.

What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical & Electrical Technician
  1. Carrying out scheduled planned maintenance work on mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimise plant breakdowns.
  2. Investigating plant failures and carrying out repairs quickly to avoid process interruptions, including diagnosing complex faults and repairs during incidents.
  3. Providing technical advice, referencing up-to-date technical knowledge, and supporting or training technical trainees if needed.
  4. Working on equipment such as pumps, control gear, 3-phase motors, starters, controls, electronic control systems like VSDs, automatic valves, penstocks, flow, level, and pressure measurement devices, programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives, chemical handling, and dosing equipment.
  5. Participating in a standby rota following relevant training.

Base Location: Chesham - HP5 1TH

Working Pattern: 38 Hours, Monday-Friday 7:30 am – 3:36 pm, plus standby & overtime opportunities, increasing earning potential by £8,000-£10,000.

All PPE, tools, van, and fuel card are provided.

What you should bring to the role
  • You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems working in a multi-skilled capacity.
  • Previous experience in an electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering with upskill qualification in mechanical NVQ2/3 is crucial.
  • Ideally, you will have a mechanical qualification to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify, or repair mechanical and electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently.
  • For individuals with mechanical or electrical experience only, we will look to develop the right people to dual-skilled status.
  • Knowledge of health and safety issues is crucial.
  • A valid driving license is essential; all necessary equipment such as vehicle and tools are provided.
