Job description

Specialist Mechanical Process Technician, London

We are currently recruiting a Specialist Mechanical Process Technician to be based at our Desalination plant at Thames Gateway Water Treatment Works. The role will support the operation of the water treatment process.

You will work within multiple disciplined teams following a robust maintenance plan, and be involved in installation projects, electrical fault finding, project commissioning, and emergency breakdown repairs.

Although this position is advertised as a mechanical technician, dual-skilled workers in mechanical and electrical disciplines are advantageous.

Responsibilities:
  1. Work on various stages of water treatment and associated mechanical equipment, including pumps, motors, gearboxes, valves, filtration plants, chemical dosing equipment, air compressors, pneumatic plants, and sampling equipment.
  2. Investigate process plant failures and perform repairs efficiently to minimize process interruptions, including diagnosing complex faults during incidents.
  3. Perform scheduled, planned maintenance on mechanical equipment.
  4. Provide technical advice to the team and contractors, and support or train technical trainees if required.
  5. Participate in a 24/7 standby rota after training and assessment.
  6. Conduct health and safety checks, escalate concerns, and ensure safety protocols are followed.

  • Location: Thames Gateway, Essex, IG11 0AD
  • Hours: 38 hours/week plus standby rota, with additional pay
  • Company vehicle provided
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Experience with large industrial plants and mechanical systems
  • BNC/HNC in engineering, NVQ Level 3, or City & Guilds Level 3 in mechanical engineering
  • Mechanical maintenance NVQ 2/3 (beneficial but not essential)
  • Previous mechanical apprenticeship experience
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and use breathing apparatus (training provided)
  • Knowledge of health and safety issues
  • Valid UK driving license
