Assistant Director of Financial Management

VANRATH is delighted to partner with a large public sector organization in Belfast as they recruit for an Assistant Director of Financial Management on an interim basis. This role supports the Director of Finance in managing the organization’s financial operations, including budgeting, financial planning, and reporting, ensuring compliance with public sector regulations and the effective use of public funds.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Planning & Strategy:
  2. Assist in developing financial strategies and preparing annual budgets.
  3. Support long-term financial planning aligned with organizational goals.
  4. Oversee the preparation and delivery of financial reports.
  5. Monitor financial performance, identify trends, and assess risks.
  6. Ensure compliance with public sector accounting standards.
  1. Budget Management:
  2. Support the budgeting process and ensure efficient allocation of resources.
  3. Monitor budget performance and implement corrective actions as needed.
  1. Compliance & Governance:
  2. Ensure adherence to financial regulations and governance frameworks.
  3. Coordinate with auditors and stakeholders on compliance matters.
  4. Lead and develop the financial management team for high performance.

Key Requirements:

  1. Qualifications:
  2. Professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, or equivalent).
  3. Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is preferred.
  1. Experience:
  2. 3-5 years of financial management experience, preferably in the public sector.
  3. Experience in budgeting, reporting, and compliance.
  1. Skills:
  2. Strong knowledge of financial management and accounting principles.
  3. Leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams.
  4. Proficiency with financial software and reporting tools.
