Job Description

Title: Senior Electrical Design Engineer

Reporting To: Lead Engineer

Location & Hours: Monday - Friday, 37 hours. Occasional site visits.

Purpose of Role:

The role of an Electrical Design Engineer involves handling all aspects of design related to production, R&D, procurement, service support, and technical documentation of electrical systems within Hydrogen Energy Solutions. The engineer is responsible for ensuring equipment designed meets the highest safety and quality standards and is delivered on time within the project plan.

Duties:

• Leading and taking ownership of electrical and control/instrumentation system design from concept through to manufacture.
• Designing for both internal and external manufacture.
• Coordinating and communicating requirements to external manufacturers.
• Liaising across disciplines to develop effective integrated solutions.
• Completing work packages in a timely manner.
• Participating in HAZOPs and contributing to LOPA’s.
• Contributing to the learning and development of junior engineering talent.
• Designing electrical installations for various hydrogen systems.
• Specifying electrical equipment, including power distribution systems, motor control centres, instrumentation, and control systems.
• Generating electrical designs compliant with BS7671 and ATEX regulations.
• Working with other engineering disciplines to provide integrated solutions.
• Preparing Bills of Material and specifications.
• Preparing technical file documentation and assisting with O&M Manuals.
• Ensuring H&S, quality, and environmental procedures are followed.
• Maintaining project ATEX documentation.
• Producing technical documentation for machine operation, testing, and design.
• Understanding project objectives and deliverables.
• Specifying and designing electrical installations up to 33kV.
• Preparing technical/functional specifications for electrical equipment.
• Developing control systems from concept through to final design, installation, and commissioning.

Requirements:

Essential Experience:

• Expert knowledge of electrical design packages such as Eplan or similar.
• Accurate of BoMs and electrical reporting such as cable scheduling, terminal line-ups.
• Adept at system/circuit-oriented layout of multiline diagrams.
• Proven experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Expert MRP and BoM handling experience, and design roles in the ECO process.
• Solid understanding of procurement and manufacturing stages of a design lifecycle.
• Knowledge of ATEX Directive and Standards.
• Working knowledge of relevant technical standards.
• Excellent analytical and fault-finding skills.
• Detail-oriented approach to design.
• Proven experience producing high-quality, detailed control panel designs including the integration of PLCs, HMIs, and Drive Systems.
• Previous experience in a related industry, e.g., Process, O&G, Renewable Energy.
• Designing to comply with various earthing philosophies.
• Knowledge of functional safety requirements.
• Understanding of HV distribution.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform electrical calculations, conduct system studies, and generate accurate engineering drawings.
• Ideally degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

Additional Requirements:

• Experience with mechanical CAD packages would be advantageous.
• Compex training.
• Experience with PLC/HMI programming.
