The Role of the Engineering Planner
  • Ideal for aspiring engineers or planners seeking a career in industrial maintenance or experienced engineers expanding their industry knowledge.
  • Responsible for coordinating all planned maintenance activities, scheduling preventive and regular maintenance to minimize production disruption, serving as the key contact between mobile plant and production teams, and supporting other departments.
  • Manage department administration, including purchasing documents, staffing spreadsheets, planning documents, and statutory compliance records.
  • Coordinate maintenance work and projects, facilitate planning meetings, and schedule workloads for both customer and mobile plant needs.
  • Participate in safety, health, and environmental programs.
  • Lead or influence teams including engineers, operations, and suppliers to execute maintenance work.
  • Create and manage maintenance and preventive schedules for critical and regulated equipment.
  • Develop reports, standards, and metrics to improve performance.
  • Manage purchase requisitions and orders.
  • Develop shutdown schedules integrating all activities.
  • Own the scheduling process for mobile plant, produce KPIs, and support asset management.
  • Provide training and support on engineering IT systems.
  • Safely schedule multi-disciplinary teams and cover team leader roles when needed.
  • Identify and implement system improvements, ensuring accurate information for plant and engineers.
  • Understand statutory and regulatory requirements, including testing, inspections, and technical specifications.
Requirements for the Engineering Planner
  • Qualified to BTEC national level or equivalent.
  • Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
  • Significant experience in maintenance scheduling and execution, especially in plant and vehicle maintenance.
  • Experience with continuous improvement techniques and strong IT skills.
  • Good knowledge of health and safety procedures and legislation.
  • Supplier/contractor experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Manufacturing environment experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience in team organization, engineering operations, and work planning.
  • Problem-solving ability, organizational skills, and time management.
  • Strong communication and IT skills.

Training will be provided to address any knowledge or skills gaps.

Working Pattern

This role operates Monday to Friday, 8 am to 4 pm. Weekend work is not expected; however, if necessary, equivalent time off will be given. Flexibility in working hours can be accommodated if required.
