Job summary

As a State Registered Biomedical Scientist, the post holder will be a member of the departmental team and assist in delivering a quality-driven, cost-effective, patient-focused service aligned with the Trust's objectives. They will provide services in a manner consistent with the profession.

The main role involves examining pathological samples using various technologies and reporting or presenting results as appropriate, including bacteriology, virology, and molecular sections of the laboratory.

All employees are expected to behave in a manner that supports the following principles:

  • The post holder may need to work on multiple sites within the Trust and support a 24/7 service, including out-of-hours on-call duties.

Applicants must be HCPC registered and possess an IBMS Specialist Portfolio.

Main duties of the job

Under the guidance of Team Leaders, with a professional approach and within Trust Policies and SOPs, the post holder will:

  1. Participate in routine laboratory work efficiently, cost-effectively, and safely.
  2. Help maintain UKAS accreditation standards.

  • Perform other technical duties within training and competence
Working Conditions
  • Work mainly in a laboratory environment, sitting or standing for prolonged periods, with light to moderate physical effort.
  • Exposure to potentially infectious samples and chemicals.
  • Support for a 24/7 diagnostic service, with hours to be confirmed at interview.
