Job description

Job Title: State Registered Biomedical Scientist

Note: Previous applicants need not apply.

The post holder will be a member of the departmental team, assisting in delivering a quality, cost-effective, patient-focused service aligned with the Trust's objectives. They will provide professional services in accordance with their qualifications and standards.

Role

The main responsibilities include examining pathological samples using various technologies and reporting or presenting results, including bacteriology, virology, and molecular sections of the laboratory.

All employees are expected to behave in a manner that supports the following principles:

  • Work on sites as appropriate for service delivery, possibly across multiple sites within the trust.
  • Support a 24/7 service, including out-of-hours on-call provision as required.
  • Applicants must be HCPC registered and possess an IBMS Specialist Portfolio.
Responsibilities

Under the guidance of Team Leaders, and within Trust policies and SOPs, the post holder will:

Service Delivery & Development
  • Participate in routine laboratory work efficiently, cost-effectively, and safely.
  • Help maintain UKAS accreditation standards.

The duties include:

  • Infection control, health and safety, governance, equipment maintenance, stock control, information technology, planning, supervision, and other technical duties within the post-holder’s training and competence.
Working Conditions
  • Work primarily in a laboratory environment, with prolonged sitting or standing at the bench.
  • Exposure to potentially infectious samples and chemical risks.
  • The role involves working in a 24/7 diagnostic service; working hours to be confirmed at interview.
