Job InformationThis is a hybrid role combining strong journalistic instinct with on-screen reporting and presenting. A senior journalist/reporter will be responsible for presenting, originating, shaping, and delivering stories tailored for live streams and digital-first formats - helping the BBC connect with new and existing audiences across platforms.
Main ResponsibilitiesThis role operates within the MENA region as part of the BBC World Service, supporting the Arabic, Persian, and potentially Turkish language services
You will be reporting to Streaming Editor and will have the following responsibilities:
Content Planning and Production Management
• Develop and manage live and recorded streaming calendars, ensuring alignment with brand and editorial strategies. Oversee production logistics, ensuring technical and creative quality.
• Alert editors to breaking news and be ready to file accurate, on-the-spot reports and present, as soon as possible. Check and advise against coverage when necessary.
• Provide regular advice on news developments, guidance on agency or newspaper stories and briefings on government policies.
On-Air Presentation and Field Reporting
• Confident and have the talent to go on air and host live streams, conduct interviews, and file on-the-spot reports during breaking news events across digital and streaming platforms.
Streaming Operations and Technical Expertise
• Operate and troubleshoot streaming software, manage remote setups, and deliver high-quality mobile broadcasts.
SEO and Platform Optimization
• Develop and use all formats and platforms available to tell the story in the most appropriate way, with a particular focus on social media to deliver our journalism to audiences.
• Apply SEO best practices (titles, metadata, tags) to maximize discoverability and optimize content for platform algorithms.
Audience Engagement and Community Interaction
• Drive real-time audience engagement through live chats, polls, interactive features, and ensure content is tailored for digital and social platforms.
Guest and Talent Coordination
• Coordinate, brief, and support on-air talent and guests with scripts, technical guidance, and logistics for smooth appearances.
Content Quality Assurance and Editorial Standards
• Ensure all live streams, reports, and digital content meet BBC editorial standards for accuracy, impartiality, technical excellence, and brand consistency.
Analytics, Reporting, and Insights
• Track performance metrics (engagement, SEO, viewership) and provide post-event analysis with actionable recommendations.
Budget, Resource, and Vendor Management
• Manage production budgets, coordinate with external vendors and freelancers, and oversee resource allocation efficiently.
Innovation, Crisis Management, and Trend Monitoring
• Stay ahead of industry trends, propose innovative content ideas, develop contingency plans for live broadcasts, and swiftly troubleshoot any technical issues.
Strong Arabic or Persian Language Skills
• Demonstrate excellent written and spoken ability in Arabic or Persian, ensuring content quality, editorial accuracy, and effective audience communication.
You will have:
• Strong experience as a journalist, with a proven track record in on-screen presentation and reporting and ability to present live and pre-recorded video content with confidence and clarity.
• A demonstrable interest in streaming and new media which will include knowledge of how to maximise a live broadcasting reach for digital and social media platforms.
• Understanding of the unique demands of streaming and digital distribution, including metadata, thumbnails, and audience engagement tactics.
• Excellent editorial judgement and a commitment to BBC values of accuracy, fairness, and impartiality.
• Strong understanding of digital and social storytelling, and the ways audiences consume news across platforms.
• Collaborative mindset, comfortable working as part of a multi-disciplinary editorial team.
• Knowledge of video production processes, including scripting, shooting, and visual planning.
• An understanding of health and safety procedures and how they apply to broadcasting.
