Your role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work on urban resilience in Greater Manchester, a city-region recognized by the United Nations as a global leader in resilience. As a Business Support Officer, you will support emergency planning, response, and resilience services for Greater Manchester Councils. You will operate within the Greater Manchester Resilience Unit, a shared service established to deliver civil contingencies expertise.

This position offers a hybrid working model across two sites: GMP HQ in Newton Heath and Manchester City Centre. You will work closely with the Greater Manchester Chief Resilience Officer to provide high-quality business support and administration, contributing to a dynamic, fast-paced service environment.

The role involves working within a multi-agency framework with civil contingencies activities coordinated through the Greater Manchester Resilience Forum, involving over 80 organizations involved in emergency planning and response.

You will join the team during a pivotal time as Greater Manchester’s Councils implement resilience strategies following recent devolution agreements, national resilience strategies, and frameworks.

About you:

You should enjoy working under pressure, managing conflicting priorities during crises. Experience in civil contingencies is not essential but understanding emergency management and response is advantageous.

You will:

  • Provide administrative support to senior officials, including handling confidential information.
  • Manage filing, record keeping, and office IT systems, supporting service delivery through research and data management.
  • Coordinate diaries, organize meetings up to Board level, and take minutes/action notes.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and relationship management skills with diverse stakeholders.
  • Support the development and delivery of emergency preparedness and response programs across Greater Manchester.
  • Participate in multi-agency efforts to enhance emergency response and recovery arrangements.

Mandatory requirements:

  • Flexibility to work on a 365/24/7 on-call rota for emergencies.
  • Successful police security clearance through Greater Manchester Police.
  • Full driving license and access to a vehicle for business use, with casual car user allowance.
  • Willingness to travel across and outside Greater Manchester as needed.
