I am currently seeking an experienced SEN teacher to work with children with autism and/or SLD at a delightful SEN school in Northwick, Harrow. The school is experiencing significant growth and is opening a new site for EYFS-KS2 pupils after the May half term, which will be its third site. Additionally, a fourth site for 7-16-year-olds will open in Twickenham in September.

Due to high demand, the school is looking to appoint a quality SEN teacher from June or sooner. The role involves teaching a mixed KS1/2 class at pre-school levels, supporting students with moderate to complex autism. You will be establishing a new class with substantial SLT support, with 5 pupils transitioning into the school. The class will be supported full-time by an HLTA and 2 TAs.

SEN Teacher Roles & Responsibilities

This role requires leading, delivering, and coordinating lessons and curriculum for a class of 5 primary students with cognitive and developmental difficulties, including autism. You should be committed to ensuring pupils make good progress and reach their potential through engaging, multi-sensory teaching. Strong line management skills, target setting, curriculum planning, report writing, liaising with parents and external agencies, and effective communication with staff are essential.

SEN Teacher Duties Would Include

• Inspiring and developing social skills of children with profound and multiple learning difficulties.
• Assessing individual learning needs and collaborating with LSAs in class.
• Monitoring and reporting on student progress.
• Working with the head of department to ensure accurate tracking and achievement of targets.

The Ideal SEN Teacher Candidate

• QTS or a recognized UK teaching qualification.
• Ability to differentiate work based on student needs and abilities.
• Excellent communication skills for collaboration with staff.
• Ability to use initiative and work under pressure.
• PECS or Makaton training is desirable.
• Experience in a UK SEN school is preferred but not essential.
