Job Description

A graduate engineer at Wentworth is responsible for undertaking civil, structural and geotechnical design / checking & method development tasks from client briefs with regular ongoing supervision. They use their knowledge, skills and experience to identify and implement practical, cost effective and safe solutions with due diligence, skill and care in accordance with statutory legislation, the suite of Eurocodes and other approved industry body guidance and established best practice. They execute tasks in accordance with the instructions given by their supervising engineer. They comply with the Wentworth business management system including all policies, procedures and work instructions.

Duties & Responsibilities

Promotes Wentworth to internal and external clients. Is actively progressing towards CEng MICE / MIStructE registration. Regularly & diligently communicates with their supervising engineer to ensure that they understand the task being undertaken and that the task develops efficiently and in line with projected timescale and budget.

Undertakes civil, structural and geotechnical design / checking & method development tasks from client briefs with regular ongoing supervision. Develops concept and detailed design approaches using appropriate tools to suit the complexity of the task.

Uses their knowledge, skills and experience to identify and implement practical, cost effective and safe solutions with due diligence, skill and care in accordance with statutory legislation, the suite of Eurocodes and other approved industry body guidance and established best practice.

Has a basic knowledge of industry standard structural/geotechnical software packages with a basic understanding of their limitations as well as capability of producing sketches to scale by hand and/or using CAD.

Has a basic understanding of the execution of projects in accordance with BS EN ISO 19650 'Organization and digitization of information about buildings and civil engineering works, including building information modelling (BIM)’.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • BEng (Hons) degree in civil, structural, or geotechnical engineering.
  • CITB Construction Skills Certification Scheme Card.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Basic understanding of basic design tools & methods.
  • Basic understanding of fundamental engineering principles, physics and statics.
  • Basic understanding of actions and load paths.
  • Basic working knowledge of design in all mainstream materials (steel / concrete & timber).
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and documentation.
