Head of Procurement - Newly created role, Wetherby, W. Yorkshire/Hybrid - up to GBP75,000

Augean is a market leader serving the renewable energy, construction, nuclear and radioactive, processing and manufacturing, oil and gas, and industrial cleaning sectors. Their ISO accredited facilities service the length and breadth of the UK and manage up to one million tonnes of hard to handle waste annually, with the ability to accept a wide variety of contaminants. Supporting their strategic development plans, an exciting new greenfield opportunity has emerged for a Procurement Manager to provide expertise and implement best practices.

Role

Reporting to the CFO and working closely with Operations and Supply Chain, your key objective will be to rationalise and consolidate their current supply chain, utilizing your successful track record in procurement. We seek a robust, self-responsible, driven, and hands-on Procurement Manager with strong process, planning, and relationship management skills, engaging with suppliers and customers. Your responsibilities include implementing rigorous procurement processes, providing governance, advice, training, and ensuring supplier compliance and performance. You will develop a commercial framework for the operation and maintenance of the company's treatment and disposal assets, establishing mechanisms for managing all commercial supply contracts, including evaluating procurement metrics such as supplier performance and procurement efficiency. Frequent travel to Augean and supplier sites will be required.

• Manage and lead all procurement activities, including strategic sourcing, pre-qualification, tender management, and negotiation.
• Evaluate, review, and consolidate the supply chain through a national tender program.
• Support the business in procurement activities and review supplier contracts for better value or alternative suppliers, covering capital expenditure and operational needs.
• Develop procurement metrics and KPIs to monitor performance.
• Identify and manage risks associated with contracts, implementing controls, and advising senior management on contract risks.
• Develop and implement policies, procedures, systems, and training to support procurement operations.
• Manage supplier performance measurement processes to facilitate continuous improvement.
• Adapt to organizational changes and evolve supplier relationships to maximize value from the supply chain.

Person

We seek an engaging, commercially astute procurement leader, ready to step into a pivotal role where they can influence and grow with Augean. You will possess strong communication, influencing, and leadership skills, with a focus on delivering value, building long-term relationships, and managing risks. Experience in procurement of complex contracts and risk management is essential. An understanding of engineering, plant, process/energy, or multi-site operations is beneficial but not mandatory; your track record and fit are paramount.

• Graduate and qualified MCIPS with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
• Lean or Six Sigma certification is a plus.
• Expertise in commercial contract procurement and risk management.
• Strong relationship management and negotiation skills.
• Proven change management experience and credentials in driving business improvements.
• Experience in designing and delivering tender programs, negotiating contracts, and achieving cost savings.
• Ability to work independently.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Experience in continuous improvement environments.
• Financially literate, legally competent in contract negotiations, and commercially savvy.
• Strong influencing skills and stakeholder engagement at all levels.
