Job overview

We are seeking Clinical Fellows at ST3 level to join our inclusive and well-led Paediatrics teams at Basildon on a permanent, full-time basis.
Your duties will be arranged with the responsible Consultant, who holds final medical responsibility for all patients under their care.
You will work alongside doctors in training (Foundation Year 2, GPVTS, Paediatric ST1 & ST2) and receive an educational program with one-to-one support from an educational supervisor.
Support will be provided to help you complete your MRCPCH exams if required.
These positions are suitable for doctors meeting the essential criteria and wishing to further explore paediatrics.

Main duties of the job
  • Managing patients in children’s ward, Paediatric assessment unit, and Paediatric ED, including participation in resuscitation scenarios.
  • Working in the neonatal unit, including the Level 2 neonatal intensive care unit, labour ward, and post-natal ward, involving resuscitation and stabilization of premature neonates with senior medical support.
  • Managing patients in the outpatient area under supervision, participating in an active teaching program, and delivering bedside teaching to junior colleagues, students, and nurses.
  • Participating in departmental presentations, audits, simulation exercises, safeguarding cases, and collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality care.

Qualifications
  • Guidance Score MBBS or equivalent qualification
  • GMC registration
  • APLS or EPLS
  • NLS
  • Success in 2 of 3 MRCPCH written papers within the last 7 years
Desirable criteria
  • MRCPCH
Experience
  • At least 6-12 months NHS experience at ST1-3 level
  • At least 12 months in Paediatrics, including 6 months in Neonatology and 6 months in General Paediatrics
  • Evidence of achievement of paediatric capabilities as per the Paediatric RCPCH Progress+ curriculum
Communication skills
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • IT skills
