Job description

NES Fircroft is collaborating with an independent, family-owned company based in West Bromwich, West Midlands, that manufactures organic chemicals for various industries, including Pharmaceutical, Agrochemical, Rubber, Polymer, Food & Beverage, and allied sectors. We are seeking a Polymer Chemist to join an existing team to work on a lower tier COMAH facility.

Our client requires a hands-on and technically sound Chemist with the view to developing into an enthusiastic and passionate Polymer Chemist/Rubber Technologist.

Minimum Requirements

1. Degree level (or Equivalent) in Applied Chemistry or Elastomer Technology.
2. Rubber experience is not essential as training will be provided, including a Diploma in Rubber Technology and Science.
3. Responsible for synthesis of novel rubber accelerators, development of accelerator systems, and polymer compounds for various markets and applications.
4. Conduct research, analysis, synthesis, and experimentation on new and existing materials/substances for product and process development.
5. Provide Production and Quality Control Support on a range of products.
6. Perform analytical and physical testing of rubber products and interpret test data.
7. Prepare technical reports for sales and management teams.
8. Ensure compliance with workplace safety standards.
9. Perform laboratory work independently, initially under supervision.
10. Investigate and evaluate new raw materials for use in products.
11. Execute experiments to validate hypotheses related to elastomeric materials, vulcanization, and physical properties.
12. Apply knowledge of processing factors, materials chemistry, synthesis, and characterization techniques.
13. Relate material properties to product performance.
14. Communicate findings effectively through written and verbal reports.

Career Development

With experience, guidance, and training, the successful candidate can develop into a Senior Polymer Chemist. This role would involve:

• Gaining an excellent knowledge of regulations and standards in the rubber industry.
• Familiarity with compounding requirements for all polymer families, including lattices for medical, consumer, and engineering applications.
• Understanding elastomer vulcanization, filler interactions, and physical properties.
• Providing technical support to global customers, including potential travel.
• Evaluating industry trends and their impact on products and chemicals.
• Understanding and defending the company's products and services.
• Writing technical papers and presenting at international conferences.
