Job Description:

Role: Analytical Chemistry (Environmental Chemistry) Technical Assessor

Part-Time Contract Role

This is a self-employed, independent position involving assessing laboratories for compliance with pollution control standards. The role requires significant expertise in environmental monitoring of water, soil, and air, and a good understanding of relevant regulations.

As a Technical Assessor with UKAS, you will help laboratories meet ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standards, contributing to quality improvements and engaging with industry professionals. This role offers opportunities for professional development, involvement in refining assessment procedures, and supporting national infrastructure.

Experience Required:

  • Experience in an ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited lab analyzing environmental samples
  • Expertise in testing soils, water, and air using organic/inorganic techniques
  • Strong foundation in general chemistry and analytical techniques
  • Understanding of quality control and data integrity requirements
  • Excellent communication skills with diverse stakeholders
  • Experience with UK standards and regulations

Key Skills:

  • Support and develop technical aspects of quality systems in accredited labs
  • Practical experience in relevant environmental sectors
  • Knowledge of industry methods and schemes like DWTS and MCERTS
  • Experience with laboratory audits (beneficial)
  • Effective communication with staff and management

Training will be provided to improve report writing skills aligned with UKAS standards and ISO/IEC 17025:2017 awareness.
