Job Description:

The Environment Compliance Manager is responsible for the development and improvement of environmental compliance across all waste management operations, particularly in relation to environmental permits and compliance with relevant directly applicable legislation. You will have input into the implementation and communication of the Group Environment Strategy to the business, support and training to operating divisions, and regular performance reporting.

Your core responsibilities

  • Support the assessment and management of compliance across the Group, including assisting with the rollout and implementation of the Group Environment Strategy to improve legal performance.
  • Support on the provision of detailed specialist environmental legal and technical advice, guidance, and analysis across the business in relation to current operations and compliance issues.
  • Develop, update, and review Group and divisional procedures and guidance to drive best practice and ensure legal compliance.
  • Assist in the production and delivery of training packages across the group to ensure understanding of environmental risks, compliance, and legislation.
  • Produce bespoke audit programs to ensure strategies outlined in the Group Environmental Compliance Strategy are being followed, executed, and reported to senior management, ensuring ongoing compliance with environmental permits and management plans.
  • Manage and verify environmental compliance statistics, produce reports, and communicate findings across the Group.
  • Review operational tasks to prevent non-compliances, assess legislation, and develop compliant processes, providing guidance and coaching to operational staff.
  • Liaise with Environmental Regulators over compliance issues, incident management, investigations, and enforcement actions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Environmental Science or a similar relevant subject
  • Hands-on experience in an environmental management role in waste management, including dealing with regulatory bodies and incident investigations
  • In-depth knowledge of current and proposed environmental and regulatory legislation
  • Understanding of waste management activities and techniques
