We are looking for a Sustainability Co-Ordinator to work within our Estates & Facilities Management Team. In this role you will plan, coordinate and to support the implementation of the Sustainability Strategy and embed sustainability across the force and to lead on engagement activity for sustainability and deliver the sustainability comms and engagement plan
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Sustainability Manager in implementing, monitoring, and measuring the force’s comprehensive sustainability programme to deliver the sustainability strategy and embed sustainability “in all that we do”.
- Actively assist and contribute to decision making to support the Sustainability Manger in the day-to-day delivery, planning, monitoring, and reporting of the sustainability programme.
- Use initiative on a daily basis to make appropriate decisions, manage own time to ensure prioritisation of tasks, while maintaining a high level of professionalism.
- Ensure continuous improvement by developing ideas and creating new content to inspire SILS and to cover all areas of the strategy; identify gaps and opportunities for improvement across strategy delivery and develop innovative ways to address these.
- Work independently on all aspects of the role, exercising maximum autonomy and control, whilst recognising when it is appropriate to seek advice or assistance from a colleague or manager.
- Manage the Sustainability Impact Lead (SIL) and Sponsor network.
- Manage the online bespoke sustainability action planning tool, including managing the dashboard, the usage of the tool, updating the tool content and extracting and analysing data to produce performance reports for all areas of the force. =
- Deliver the sustainability comms and engagement plan working together with Corporate Comms.
- Develop and deliver a programme to achieve regular planned engagement across all levels of the force, including the provision of communication materials, case studies and newsletters
- Manage the sustainability website and update content; circulate updates to Sustainability Impact Leads and stakeholders across the force.
- Provide support for sustainability projects, including stakeholder engagement, business administration, procurement, and finance administrative tasks, developing and monitoring project plans and providing progress reports.
- Assist with the preparation of sustainability progress reports including SCT and annual reports.
- Manage the utility billing process. Take ownership of issues and work with suppliers to resolve queries and billing discrepancies to achieve resolution, and report on outcomes.
- Undertake proactive analysis of data and costs to highlight anomalies, identify opportunities to enhance efficiency. Develop plans to generate efficiency savings and produce reports to evidence reductions in cost and consumption.
- Manage the SYP waste inbox - deal with day to enquiries relating to various waste streams; make decisions regarding disposal options; deal with contamination and breaches of waste legislation; and provide solutions.
- Assist Finance in producing budgetary forecasts in line with contract rates and consumption data; and provide data for benchmarking and carbon reporting purposes.
- Communicate with internal stakeholders and waste contractors to achieve effective, legally compliant and contract compliant resolutions to all waste queries and issues. Provide support in arranging disposal solutions for EFM projects to the Waste and Carbon Officer.
- Keep abreast of developments in sustainability by carrying out research and reporting findings.
Skills And Experience
- A commitment and willingness to complete the Level 4 Apprenticeship: corporate responsibility and sustainability practitioner.
- Evidence of a good level of education including 4 GCSE’s at Grade 4 or above (or equivalent) including Maths and English Language.
- Experience of project management, change management or engagement.
- Knowledge and interest in sustainability issues.
- A good communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and attention to detail and comfortable managing multiple tasks.
- Self-motivated with an ability to organise themselves, use initiative and make decisions.
- Continuous improvement mind-set with an ability to work to a high standard.
- Proven ability in windows-based computer packages including outlook, excel, word and PowerPoint.

Eligibility
Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
