The salary for this role is £31,100. Onsite working is expected for 5 days a week, however, we actively support requests for flexible working.

This role is based at the following site: Culham, Oxfordshire.

This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.

The Role

As Waste Services Technician, you will play a pivotal role in delivering packages of work across Waste Services Group Facilities and Projects, including supervising operational teams to ensure work is carried out safely and to standards.

Key Accountabilities:
  1. Promote safety, health, and welfare of yourself and colleagues.
  2. Champion UKAEA’s values, fostering equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  3. Supervise operations within Waste Services Group Facilities, ensuring standards through monitoring and inspections.
  4. Communicate effectively with operators, conduct pre-work briefings and training.
  5. Produce written Safe Systems of Work (Risk Assessments, Work Instructions, Method Statements) in line with UK legislation and policies, and communicate them effectively.
  6. Support recruitment and induction of Operatives.
  7. Assist the Operational Team Leader with wider initiatives and activities.
  8. Adhere to UKAEA’s best practices and quality standards.
  9. Perform other reasonable tasks as requested by your manager.
Qualifications

Essential:

  • Experience supervising teams of operatives with attention to detail.
  • Good understanding of safety management principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
  • Ability to wear Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE).
  • Proactive attitude and self-motivation.

Desirable:

  • Level 2 NVQ in Nuclear Decommissioning or similar.
  • Registered Beryllium and Non-Classified Radiation Worker.
  • IOSH Managing Safely certificate or equivalent.
  • Experience in a regulated industry.
  • Experience maintaining RPE.
  • Experience in training delivery.
