Summary

Purpose:

In your role as Information Architect, you will operate within the (Enterprise Technology) Enterprise Architecture team, working closely with the Enterprise Architect. You will drive and support the delivery of information architecture and related design activities in support of key programmes, shaping and guiding such delivery in partnership with Solution and Information Architects within the team.

You will deliver an information architecture service that positively enables and evolves the IT landscape across AQA education, developing capabilities and services related to information/data architecture.

You will support the delivery of effective architectural strategies within Enterprise Technology, engaging with internal stakeholders across Assessment Technology and wider group entities to ensure alignment of approaches.

You will establish, lead, and champion coherent corporate-wide information/data architecture models and standards, taking ownership of and resolving or escalating issues as needed.

You will design, implement, guide, and support the delivery of technology solutions to meet business requirements, liaising between technology and business stakeholders.

You will provide architecture consultancy support to colleagues and stakeholders, ensuring solutions are proportionate and effective in meeting business outcomes.

You will maintain high-level knowledge across architectural areas, producing designs and solutions that are compliant with standards.

Landscape

The Enterprise Technology Division, within Corporate Services, delivers core services and partners with Assessment Technology and Programme Management for IT operations and change programs.

Functions include Service Delivery, Enterprise IT Services, Enterprise Applications, Architecture & Security.

The Architecture team comprises five members, including Enterprise Architect, Information Architect, and Solution Architects.

Stakeholder engagement may be required across various locations and external providers.

Activities
  • Lead in Information Architecture development, supporting other architectural areas to fulfill business requirements.
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, guidance, and standards for Enterprise Architecture.
  • Support the refresh and implementation of the technology strategy, leading specific areas as needed.
  • Define and verify adherence to technical standards across data, processing, storage, and network architectures.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to design solutions that meet quality, cost, and time criteria, aligned with standards.
  • Conduct horizon scanning to leverage emerging technologies and standards.
  • Review systems for compliance with the IT strategy and architectural policies, managing risks.
  • Maintain a catalog of systems, interdependencies, and technical profiles.
  • Support team development and cross-skilling, ensuring compliance with policies and legislation.
Requirements

You need proven experience as an information/data architect, with expertise in data modeling, enterprise architecture, and modernisation strategies, especially within hybrid and cloud environments. Strong stakeholder management, strategic thinking, and the ability to communicate effectively across levels are essential. You should be adaptable, pragmatic, and committed to best practices and continuous improvement.
