Team Lead – Warehouse

This role will be responsible for the operation of a section within the Warehouse function.

  1. Supporting the Management Team with the day-to-day operation of the warehouse, responsible for a group of operators, and ensuring efficient warehouse operation to achieve business targets.
  2. Provide line management to the team, coordinate workloads, support team performance, monitor issues, and ensure production targets, KPIs, and quality standards are met to satisfy customer requirements.
  3. Develop the team by focusing on individual performance and support, fostering a culture of safety.
Duties / Responsibilities
  • Assist in running an efficient warehouse operation fulfilling operational and customer demand and meeting set targets.
  • Train new Warehouse operatives within area of responsibility.
  • Ensure inventory accuracy in the area of responsibility.
  • Record stock movements accurately.
  • Support organizing and participate in stock takes regularly.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date computerized or automated systems.
  • Identify system improvements and recommend changes.
  • Resolve warehouse issues or problems where possible.
  • Produce reports and statistics as required.
  • Assist in planning future capacity requirements.
  • Ensure health and safety standards are met.
  • Ensure manual handling procedures are followed during lifting and maneuvering of products and materials.
  • Maintain vehicles, machinery, and equipment to be well-maintained and fit for purpose.
  • Maintain high security standards in the warehouse.
  • Keep the working environment clean and tidy to aid operational efficiency.
  • Act up for management to cover leave and absence when required.
People Management
  • Manage time and attendance for operatives and support supervisor with people management issues.
  • Communicate regularly with staff about priorities, targets, and operational requirements.
  • Report progress, achievements, and concerns to Warehouse Supervisor and/or Manager.
  • Liaise with customers, suppliers, and transport companies as needed.
  • Comply with Health, Safety, and Environmental Policies.
  • Engage others and work collaboratively.
  • Contribute proactively to team development.
  • Demonstrate moral courage, openness, and honesty in dealings.
  • Participate in grievance and disciplinary hearings.
  • Monitor performance and absence, conduct return-to-work interviews, and welfare meetings.
Experience
  • Experience as a Team Leader with ability to motivate, develop, and supervise others.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good IT skills, especially spreadsheets, databases, and warehouse systems.
  • Analytical and numerical skills.
  • Understanding of customer deliverables and impact of failure/poor quality.
  • Planning skills to meet targets and deadlines.
  • Attention to detail.
Skills and Competencies
  • GCSEs Level A-C, NVQ Level 2, or equivalent.
  • Warehouse qualification and supervisory qualification are advantageous.
  • Certification in Dangerous Goods Handling.
  • Fork Lift Truck license may be required.
  • Proven supervisory experience in warehouse settings.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and security requirements.
  • Understanding of lean techniques (advantageous).
